I wanted an AI companion that felt like it belonged on my desktop, not another tab asking for my life.

Cosmo started as one guy brute-forcing a better way to work with AI tools: less noise, more proof, more personality, and more control. The goal is not to make people worship automation. The goal is to help normal people shape their own computer experience without needing a computer science degree first.

The inspiration is internet-born: games, creator culture, PewDiePie’s tinkerer energy, late-night desktop chaos, open-source projects, and the belief that your machine should be more fun than a stack of boring dashboards.

Cosmo should be easy to try and easy to question. That is the point.

Is Cosmo a cloud AI app?

No. Lite is built around local-first behavior and should provide value without a cloud model or account. Cloud connectors are optional roadmap/full-build paths, not the default premise.

Does Cosmo train on my data?

No cloud training is part of the Lite pitch. The learning direction is local: your machine can preserve patterns, wins, feedback, and handoffs so your own Cosmo gets more useful.

What is the Layer 2 OS idea?

It is a design phrase, not a claim that Cosmo replaces Windows. Cosmo sits above your desktop as a companion layer: widgets, prompts, handoffs, guides, and eventually optional automations.

Why is the download locked?

Because public trust matters. The release link opens after July 4 and after the current Lite installer has fresh proof, a matching hash, and clean VM smoke results.

What do I get for free?

The free path is meant to have real value: the Lite companion, launch guides, beginner micro lessons, Discord feedback, and the first version of the local-first workflow philosophy.
